LASIK Surgery - How The Excimer Laser Works
by: Nicola Kennedy
The Excimer laser is a form of ultraviolet chemical laser, and is the key element that has made laser eye surgery possible. Though Excimer laser was originally used in semiconductor manufacturing in the 1970s, its use in eye surgery is now fairly widespread. While working at the IBM research laboratories in 1982, Dr. Rangaswamy Srinivasin and his research team discovered the potential of the Excimer laser in interacting with biological tissue. An ophthalmologist, Dr. Steven Trokel, explained its connection with the corneal tissue. And this was how LASIK eye surgery came into existence.
There are several types of lasers, but excimer is the preferred choice when it comes to corrective eye surgery. This is due to the fact that excimer is the most technologically advanced laser type. The excimer laser is, literally, a cool laser. That is, it precisely removes the desired part of the corneal tissue, without heating up or damaging the adjacent tissue. Quite amazingly, the excimer laser is so precise that it is capable of removing 0.5% of a human hair’s width at a time. That fact itself is enough for patients to believe that excimer-assisted eye surgery is not a gimmick, but a true technology leveraged procedure.
Juice Sensibility
October 31, 2008
Apart from eating many of the wonderful vegetables and fruits that inhabit our planet, drinking them is equally nourishing and satisfying. Juicing vegetables and fruits can also create a dynamic taste treat, causing your taste buds to dance with undiscovered delight. If you’re new to juicing, I recommend only juicing vegetables and fruits that you enjoy eating. As time goes on, you can try out other foods as well as increased amounts of those foods.
Concentrated Nutrients
As a dedicated vegetarian, you are well aware of the benefits of eating fruits and vegetables daily. What you may not have known, is that by actually juicing these delicious foods, you are consuming the maximum concentrated benefits of their nutrients. How? Simple, when you cook food, you loose up to 97% of their nutrients. That’s quite a loss huh? There are certain precautions and methods towards picking, storing and cooking food, that will minimize the loss of nutrients, but that’s another article. Suffice to say, juicing your foods will retain almost a 100% if not all depending on certain circumstances. When you juice, you take raw vegetables and fruits to do the job. Because juicing produces no heat or any other method that causes nutritional loss, you consume high levels of nutrients.
Alternative Medicines That Work For Me

Alternative Medicines That Work For Me
by: Steve Gillman
There is a lot of hype about alternative medicines, and some of them are certainly without much value. Of course there is a lot of hype about regular medicines, many of which do as much harm as good. The fact that natural remedies and treatments rarely hurt people as much as prescription drugs is one reason to at least try them. Here are a few that I can vouch for from experience.
Tea Tree Oil
I had a lump on the side of my nose, growing slowly, bleeding at times. I had it for years, and the one time I asked a doctor about it, he wasn’t sure if it was actually cancerous. I read somewhere that tee tree oil might work. I bought a bottle at a health-food store for $6. I applied a drop to the lump each day, and in less than six weeks, the lump was gone completely.
Coincidence? After having the growth for years? I don’t think so. In fact I had another growth years later on my neck, and for several years, I couldn’t remember what I had used the first time. When I found a clue in some old notes, I used tea tree oil on that growth, which was even larger than the first one. It was gone in about six weeks.

Multi-Generational Drug Abuse
by: Steve Joseph
Drug abuse is a most divisive force within a family unit. It causes people to lie to those that trust them, to use violence against those that love them and above all, to loathe themselves. In many cases the abuse of drugs goes on for many years, causing an ingrained type of damage that becomes a feature of daily life. Yet amidst the pain and suffering that is caused by drugs, there often remains an inability for individuals to fully heal themselves. In fact http://www.1drugrehabcentre.com says that the incidence of drug abuse amongst children of drug addicts remains disproportionately high, in spite of first hand experience with the devastating disease. This fact clearly outlines the need for and the significance of expert rehabilitation programs that counters the disease to the same extent that drug abuse has negatively impacted the family.
There are a variety of methods and programs that exist with regard to drug rehab programs but the priorities of almost all drug rehab programs are defined by the level of abuse of the drug addict. The process of successful drug rehab programs is usually based upon a series of fundamental needs which are designed to:

Fibromyalgia FAQ
by: Steve Joseph
What is fibromyalgia?
There is still relatively little known about fibromyalgia although the word means pain in the tendons, ligaments and muscles. Fibromyalgia pain is reported to affect the whole body, sometimes causing muscles to twitch or giving a burning sensation. The disease is more common among women than men and most sufferers agree that the symptoms resemble that of a bad flu virus or a post viral state. Experts in the field believe that chronic fatigue syndrome may be closely linked to fibromyalgia syndrome with some even concluding that they are in fact one and the same.
What causes fibromyalgia?
There is very little known about what causes fibromyalgia and furthermore the disease in general. Women tend to be more susceptible but the disease can occur in either men or women and at any age. More commonly fibromyalgia strikes women in their thirties and forties and doctors believe that the disease can be triggered by certain events. Car accidents, viral infections, arthritis, lupus and thyroid abnormalities are just a sample of the things that may be responsible for triggering fibromyalgia but these are not said to be causes by http://www.treatmentforfibro.com . People who develop fibromyalgia as a result of these events or diseases are described by doctors as having already been predisposed to the condition.

Facts About Colored Contact Lenses
by: Martin Smith
Colored Contact Lenses are the fashion statement of the day. They are available in shades of green, blue, and sometimes lavender. Colored contacts need to be matched to your skin tone for best results.
There are four main types of colored contacts, although there is little difference them. Visibility tint lenses have a slight tint that will help you locate the lens when it is in your eye easily. This is particularly helpful if the lens should slip out of place.
Enhancement lenses have an obvious tint to change the eye color of the wearer. Change is generally more effective for people with light colored eyes such as blue, hazel, or green. These lenses are a great way to initiate subtle changes to your eye color.
Opaque color tint lenses are generally used for those who have dark colored eyes such as such as brown eyes. Opaque color tint contacts have very distinct and very obvious color pattern designs. They look like real irises. The drawback to these lenses is that they affect the vision of individuals with large pupils because the opaqueness can block parts of the field of vision.
Eating Disorders Do Not Discriminate

Who suffers from Eating Disorders?
Eating Disorder sufferers are male and female alike. We are of all ethnicity’s, religions, and economic backgrounds. We are of all ages, with very different body structures. We can look normal on the outside and yet be suffering terribly on the inside.
Genetics, Psychology, and Media all influence the onset of an eating disorder. Once we get caught in the cycle, some days it seems as though we will never break free. We constantly beat ourselves up, every moment of every hour of every day. If we could just be perfect in some way then we would be ok. It is easier to stand alone, free from the rejection, and disappointment of others. In our loneliness we listen to the constant torment inside our heads.
You are stupid! You can’t do anything right! Why would anyone want to be your friend? You are so fat! No one ever is going to want you! Who would ever love you?
Every sufferer has her or his own negative voices. We try to out run them in anyway we can.We, so badly, want to be in control of our lives. Our Eating Disorder is the one thing we have control over, or so it seems. After some time, even our eating disorder becomes out of control. We may become depressed, defensive, angry, hopeless, self harming and some of us may become suicidal.
Reduce Acid Reflux or Heartburn by Strengthening the LES Valve

Reduce Acid Reflux or Heartburn by Strengthening the LES Valve
by: Rudy Silva
Heartburn and acid reflux are typically treated with over the counter products or drugs that reduce stomach acid or block the excretion of stomach acid. It would appear that if our stomach acid needed to be diluted by antacids, our body would be smart enough not produce such a corrosive liquid in our stomach.
That fact is that we need a highly acidic condition in our stomach to properly digest protein. Using drugs to suppress this stomach acid is not the correct way to deal with acid reflux or heartburn. If you do go this route, you will be facing many disease as you get older.
There are many reasons you might have acid reflux. One reason is a weakness in the Lower Esophageal Sphincter valve, LES. LES is a valve between your stomach and your esophagus. When your LES valve is weak, it can allow acidified, partially digested food to flow back up into your esophagus. The acid in the food will burn the lining of your esophagus causing the so called “heartburn…”
Here are some natural steps that you can use to strengthen your Lower Esophageal Sphincter valve:

Two Reasons Why You Might Want a Second Opinion
by: David Snape
About six months ago, I visited my dentist. Unfortunately, it wasn’t a pleasant experience.
After jamming a dental instrument into one of my teeth and asking me if I had been eating sweets, she made a decision. She felt that I had an area that needed to be drilled into, “to see how far the problem goes”. Fortunately, I declined.
This all happened shortly after she told me of her impending wedding. Maybe there is something about a new house, wedding and honeymoon that leads to fuzzy diagnosis?
I guess I had one of those gut feelings. You know the kind of feeling that tells you something is grossly wrong? She must have seen the ghost of that thought appear on my face because she started talking really fast.
I decided to see another dentist. There was nothing wrong with my perfectly healthy tooth.
I don’t know about you, but I’m a little uneasy about treating a body part that doesn’t really have a problem. In fact, I was so sure there was nothing wrong that I didn’t bother to see that second dentist until six months later.
Get Heartburn, Indigestion and Ulcer Relief Using DGL

Get Heartburn, Indigestion and Ulcer Relief Using DGL
by: Rudy Silva
In the 1940’s licorice was discovered to be useful in treating peptic ulcers. Unfortunately it had side effects that lead to high blood pressure, potassium loss, and fluid retention.
Researchers discovered that the ingredient in licorice that caused those side effects was “glycyrrhizin.” They were able to remove 97% of this chemical and the result was a product call “deglycyrrhizinated” licorice, DGL. DGL maintained its healing properties but had no side effects.
DGL was first used to heal ulcers in the stomach and duodenum without suppressing stomach acids. DGL worked just as good as the drugs Zantac or Tagamet that are designed to suppress stomach acid.
As more people used DGL, they found they got relief from a variety of stomach issues - heartburn, acid reflux, indigestion, bloating, and gas. In addition, they found using DGL was better than using antacids or acid blockers.
DGL works by improving and restoring the integrity of the esophageal, stomach and duodenum lining. It does this by promoting mucus release and cell rebuilding. The mucus released provides gastrointestinal lining protection from acids and gives the lining time to rebuild and regenerated. The result is healing and strengthening of the affected tissue.
