Massage Business Cards with Muscle, Part 1
by: Eric Brown
When you were starting your massage business, getting your massage therapy business card printed was probably the first thing you did. After all, a business card really defines you as a business person. If you’ve got a card then you must have a business.
But despite all the love and attention massage therapists give their business cards, I have to say that I’ve never felt that they’re all that useful. I’ve never been a big fan of business cards.
I never spent a whole lot of time, energy or money on developing cards for my massage practice. Of course, I had cards printed and they looked professional, but I never really gave them much regard. I never used them.
They sat on my shelf at work, mostly collecting dust. I certainly would never carry them with me.
I just didn’t feel that they were a useful marketing tool. I knew lots of massage therapists with absolutely gorgeous business cards. But that didn’t seem to prevent them from a fate of sitting in their offices twiddling their thumbs waiting for clients to come knocking. My cards were mediocre looking and largely unused and I always had a full slate of clients.

And The Healthy Diet For This Week Is?
by: Dave Odell
Before we go any further the word diet does not necessarily mean an act of losing weight but a style of eating. If you follow a healthy diet you will lose weight naturally and you will get into a lifestyle that will keep you weight stable.
Every week a “new healthy diet” comes out by some expert and it often appears that there are as many “healthy diets” as there are experts. Taking the cynical viewpoint these experts have only hit the world with a new regime to sell their latest book, DVD or new line of health food products. OK, everybody has different dietary needs due to their body type, metabolism, and genetic makeup but there are some basic guidelines that can be followed to keep to a healthy diet.
One of the first steps to a healthy diet is to rid your body of all the rubbish that is already there. These are the toxins that have built up over time. Well one way of doing this is to go down to your local pharmacy and get a pre-packaged detox kit and follow that for a specified length of time. Or you could buy antioxidants in supplement form. These are both workable quick fixes but you really need to make you diet a lifestyle.
Dry Hair And Split Ends

Dry Hair And Split Ends
by: Sharon Hopkins
Using any amount of hot air will cause your hair to dry out. Dry weather and blow drying will strip the hair of its moisture. Shampooing frequently and swimming in chlorinated pools will lead to dry hair and split ends. Hair dyes, electric curlers and permanents cause hair to dry out and have split ends.
To avoid split ends, follow the following tips and keep your hair glossy:
• Use mayonnaise: Use a dollop of mayonnaise on the palm of the hand and massage it to the head and leave it on for five minutes before having the bath. The recommended time for the mayonnaise treatment is an hour.
• Spray the beer: If you do not get any respite from using the mayonnaise, you can use beer as a good setting lotion that gives your hair the crisp, healthy and shiny look. You can pour some beer into an empty pump bottle and spray on the hair after shampooing and towel dry. Then you can style or blow-dry the hair.
Juice Fasting

Juice Fasting
by: Sharon Hopkins
Fasting is one of oldest and effective ways of burning huge amounts of accumulated waste products in the body. Previously, people used to fast by drinking water only throughout the day. Experts say that fasting on juices, both vegetable and fruit, is much gentler and beneficial in normalizing all body processes.
Juice fasting involves intake of juices diluted with water every hour or two from morning to night. Avoid taking solid foods or other kinds of liquids, especially canned juices if you are on juice fasting. The total juice intake in a day should be about 7-9 glasses.
Vitamins, minerals, carbohydrates, iron, calcium and enzymes contained in these juices supply much needed nutrients for the body’s own healing activity and thereby speeding up the recovery process. While on juice fast, ensure that your bowels are flushed out regularly.
Juice fasting is known to have many advantages. It is the safest method to detox one’s body by cleansing and eliminating those cells and tissues, which are dead or damaged. It reduces the cholesterol levels; treats symptoms of allergies, acne, and headaches by flushing out toxins — making one feel good and healthy.
Feeling Sexy During Pregnancy
July 11, 2008
Some people think that the word sexy and pregnancy do not belong together. I have to disagree. In fact, I have heard many men say that a woman is her sexiest and most beautiful when she is pregnant!
So, how do you go about feeling sexy when your belly is expanding and your body is going through so many changes? So many women tell me they feel unattractive when they are pregnant, but they don’t have to!
The good news is that the days of the maternity tent dress are over! Today’s maternity wear is hip, trendy and yes, even sexy! http://maternitycorner.com/miva/merchant.mv?Screen=CTGY&Category_Code=M The designers have brilliantly combined comfort and fashion in clothing that you can start wearing as soon as you discover you are pregnant right on through post-partum and beyond.
Just wearing your husband clothes may be economical ? and they may fit fine over your expanding belly — but they will not have a good fit everywhere else! Buying bigger sizes in regular clothes is also never a great idea if you want to feel good about yourself. I’m sorry to say you will just look bigger and feel frumpy.
The Danger of Curbing Hunger Artificially
July 10, 2008
Unhealthy eating is a harmful problem in America, and contrary to a very outdated perception, this harm is not limited to those who suffer from obesity[1]. In reality, according to the Directors of Health Promotion and Education, the majority of Americans exhibit unhealthy eating habits, with just over one in four women and only one in five men claiming to eat the minimum five daily servings of vegetables and fruits[i].
In response to this growing wave of American malnutrition, a number of nutrition-based solutions have been proposed. This has been both a positive, an ironically, a negative, development.
This has been positive in light of the simple fact that it has helped increase basic "nutrition IQ". The fact that most urban centers are home to dozens of diet and weight loss centers, and that many malls now have at least one health store has advanced awareness of America’s unhealthy eating problem.
So, too, have the numerous television shows and news reports that have covered the popular diets that dominate current weight loss discussions, such as: the Atkins Diet, the South Beach Diet, the Zone Diet, and more. The fact that a vending machine may actually contain a piece of fruit these days is further positive expressions of this growing nutritional awareness.
Water Retention

Water Retention
by: Sharon Hopkins
If you think you are too big for your clothes, your face is puffy and looks swollen when you get up in the morning, then you are suffering from water retention. The other symptoms are bloating of the stomach or tightness of the ring in the finger. Your shoes will pinch and all these events will cause you a lot of discomfort. This is called water retention or edema.
Usually, our bodies have the ability to balance the water levels in the body depending on the food that we eat or drink. But at times, this balance tends to go haywire. The leading causes of edema are excessive salt and alcohol intake, long periods of inactivity and monthly hormonal fluctuations or pregnancy in women. A sudden gain in weight or swollen ankles are the only signs of water retention.
The common home remedies for water retention are:
• Go into deep water: Exercising in the swimming pool will be an excellent remedy for curing this problem. This is due to the water pressure forcing out the excess water out of the tissues and into the bladder. It is advised to exercise gently in the pool at the temperature of 80 to 90 degrees F. if you are pregnant, avoid water above 100 degrees.

The Path To Living Well: Cultivating A Sense Of Spirituality
by: Laura Turner
“Let us first be as simple and well as Nature ourselves.” ~Thoreau, Walden
Have you ever thought: “Wouldn’t it be great to live ‘well’?” Yet, through our often rushed and fully-packed schedules it’s easy to wonder what living well actually means. Is it about living “healthy”? Eating right to support your body? Is it about exercise? Managing stress?
The answer, indeed, is “yes” to all of these. However, before exploring what you can “do” to live well, let’s first take a look at who you are “being.” After all, it’s at the bottom of your being which creates the foundation for a healthy, fulfilling life.
How to decide who you are being? Well, most people already believe in a higher source, a higher power. But for our purposes, we’ll take it one step further. We’ll call this sense of “being” your own personal Nature. And, what’s important for a life of living well, is the connection you make to this inner Nature. The easiest way to do this Develop your own personal belief system.
Why Develop Your Own Belief System?

Aromatherapy Basics - Inhalation, Injestion And Massage
by: Misty Rae Cech, ND
Getting started with aromatherapy? Here’s a little primer for the beginning to intermediate student of this practice, with some important notes about essential oil safety - There are three traditional methods of using essential oils for ‘aromatherapy’, which have been termed the English, French and German models.
The English model consists of what is now termed ‘aromatherapy massage’ - involving the dilution of essential oils in ‘carrier’ or ‘base’ oils and application topically to the skin. Because both the essential oils and the carrier oils are compatible with the skin, the essential oils are absorbed into the bloodstream with subsequent physiological effect.
Topical application is the preferred method of use for many essential oils. However, MOST essential oils require significant dilution (often to less than 3% of the total volume) as they can cause skin irritation. Lavender Oil and Chamomile Oil are two essential oils that can be applied ‘neat’ or without dilution; others, such as Cinnamon Oil and Oregano Oil should never be applied topically undiluted - they may be applied once highly diluted to the bottoms of the feet. A VERY small amount should be tested first.

The Health Benefits of Xango Explained
by: Shawn Paeltzer
Mangosteen, or Garcina mangostana, is a tropical fruit of the size of an apple. It has a thick rind and hard seeds and is grown in countries such as Thailand, Malaysia, and the Philippines. The fruit is rich in vitamins such as B1 and B2 and contains minerals like potassium and iron. However, the standout feature of this fruit is the presence of a high concentration of antioxidants and xanthones.
Mangosteen has been used for centuries in the traditional Chinese and ayurvedic medicine systems prevalent in South-east Asia as a remedy for skin and gum diseases, parasites, wounds, burns, as an anti-depressant, cure for fatigue and fevers, etc.
The health benefits of this fruit are available in the form of mangosteen juice which is sold by health stores and is available online as well. One well-known brand of mangosteen juice is Xango.
