Cholesterol Control
by: Sharon Hopkins
Newspapers have reported on the drawbacks of having a diet high in fat. High-fat diet has been linked to high cholesterol and ultimately to heart attacks. Hence, people have started avoiding beef and eggs. But cholesterol is not bad. Our body needs it to protect nerves and build new cells and hormones. It is only when we include foods like pizzas, burgers, ice creams, steaks or any food containing animal product that the problem starts. Excess cholesterol settles along the walls of the arteries and can clog them thus, restricting blood flow. This gives rise to angina, heart attack or stroke. It has also been shown that high cholesterol leads to gallstones. There are two types of cholesterol called good cholesterol or HDL and bad cholesterol or LDL. LDL is the cholesterol that clogs the arteries and should be lower while HDL scours the artery walls and removes the harmful LDL and should be higher.
Doctors recommend reducing and avoiding high-fat diets containing meat, eggs and dairy products. But you can use the following home remedies for treatment:

Traditional Medicine For Acne And Its Side Effects
by: Martha Fitzharris
If you are thinking why acne affects only you, you are terribly wrong. Acne is the most widespread skin disorder in the world, according to statistics. That’s the reason why experts and laboratories spend a lot of time doing research to determine how acne forms and how it is eliminated. Different treatments, medicines, and products have been produced to help control and eliminate this skin disorder.
In traditional medicine there are about 7 different treatments that are used in prevention and elimination of acne. There are also much different products that use these treatments in one way or another.
Some of these acne treatments that help to reduce or eliminate acne problems are: Accutane, antibiotics, Benzoyl Peroxide, herbal remedies, Retin-A and Salicylic Acid, among others.
Accutane (Isotetinoin) is a powerful drug that is normally prescribed for severe acne in cases where other treatments have failed to work. It is normally taken for a 4-6-month period.
Antibiotics were designed to fight bacteria. These are used to control acne mainly from the inside. Some topical antibiotics (clindamycin) are applied directly to the skin. Other antibiotics (tetracycline) are in pill form.
Finding the Elusive Complete-Protein Source
July 28, 2008
Images of "protein powder" containers with accomplished bodybuilders on their labels help inform consumers that protein is a critical macronutrient in strength training success. Yet what is sometimes lost in this protein-bodybuilding link is that protein is an essential component for everyone, regardless of physical activity. Even those who live sedentary lives must ensure that their protein intake is complete and balanced.
The importance of protein in diet is undeniable. Protein creates digestive enzymes, transports other vitamins and nutrients, builds and repairs body tissue, and helps keep harmful bacteria at bay[i]. These are bodily system function that all people need ? not just bodybuilders and other athletes.
Eating the appropriate composition of protein in meals is, however, proving to be an unusually difficult challenge for many Americans. To begin with, many protein sources are not considered "complete" because they do not provide all of the required amino acids necessary in order to build newer proteins. These incomplete proteins are often derived from fruit, grain, vegetable, and nut sources[ii]. However, the alternative to these incomplete protein sources ? such as meats and dairy ? present their own unique dietary challenges.

Wheatgrass - The New Fountain of Youth!
Wheatgrass is everywhere these days, quickly becoming the “new age espresso,” offered in smoothies and juices, salads and even in tablets and powders.
As many of you know, wheatgrass packs a nutritional punch, including (per 3.5 grams) 860 mg protein, 18.5 mg chlorophyll, 15 mg calcium, 38 mg lysine, 7.5 mg vitamin C, plus an abundance of micronutrients, such as the B complex vitamins and amino acids. Wheat grass enthusiasts boast its potential to help in the treatment of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. Research suggests that a diet rich in fruits and vegetables can be “preventative maintenance” for many ailments, and wheatgrass is one more way to increase the veggie power of your overall diet.
Most people who have explored the avenues of self-healing have heard about wheatgrass. Wheatgrass juice has been proven over many years to benefit people in numerous ways: cleansing the lymph system, building the blood, restoring balance in the body, removing toxic metals from the cells, nourishing the liver and kidneys and restoring vitality.
The Profect Solution for Diabetics
July 26, 2008
Diabetes, which affects more than 6% of the US population or over 18,000,000 people [i], is diagnosed when the body is not creating or effectively utilizing the hormone called insulin. As a result, much-needed energy from sugar, starch, and other sources are not being exploited as effectively as they should. This can lead to severe adverse health consequences, including nerve, ocular, and kidney problems [ii].
While genetics and environmental factors play a role, the exact cause of diabetes is as yet undetermined. However, one thing is precisely clear to those with this condition: eating right is vitally important.
Generally speaking, people with diabetes do not eat a standard "one size fits all" diet. Rather, they must adhere very closely to the healthy eating guidelines prescribed by their doctor.
However, these recommendations, which generally apply to the general public as well [iii], include principles such as eating a low-fat diet, and limiting calories from saturated fat to less than 10% of daily caloric intake. The recommendations also include eating complete sources of protein, and limiting calories from protein to 20% of daily caloric intake [iv]. It is worth noting that protein also plays an added support role in a diabetic diet, because protein can slowly transforms into glucose. As such, ingesting appropriate amounts of complete protein can help a diabetic manage blood-sugar levels.

Some Acne information for you
by: Martha Fitzharris
Severe or moderate Acne can be an upsetting an annoying problem to anyone. While acne treatments for a mild case of acne are usually successful, moderate acne is a greater problem. Even dermatologists cannot cure a severe case of acne but can only provide an acne treatment regimen.
Follow a specialist advice
After using an oral medicine or any treatment make sure that you understand and follow the directions for applying it. If you are taking a prescription acne medicine, read the patient leaflet that accompanies the medication carefully. In cases of severe and moderate acne, it’s usual that only a professional or a dermatologist may prescribe medicines, each with its own treatment protocol and directions.
When going to a professional, it is important to use all the acne treatments he gives you in a proper and correct order. Consider bringing a tablet of paper, a pen, and a friend or relative with you to your appointment with your dermatologist. Simply jot down some notes about the order and time of day for applying each acne medicine and what its purpose is.
Inactive Alert: Essential Proteins for Sedentary People
July 24, 2008
The importance of protein in diet has been clearly established by nutritional scientists, and widely accepted by athletes. Among other vital functions, protein is indispensable for creating muscle. Just as important is protein’s essential ability to repair damaged muscles after training[i].
While the value of protein in diet has been accepted and promoted within the athletic community, it has been less well disseminated within the very large sedentary population. Currently making up about 25% of Americans[ii] ? or 1 in every 4 people ? sedentary people are defined as those who undertake less than half an hour of moderate physical activity per day[iii].
A key problem to solve, therefore, is that the bulk of these sedentary Americans do not know that they are, or more likely are not, getting enough protein in their diet. This large group of sedentary people reflects the myth that protein-rich nutrition is important only for athletes and those who are physically active. The Reference Daily Intake[1] amount for protein is 50 grams, and most sedentary people are not coming close to meeting this standard.

Keeping Weight Off is Hard to Do, But the Alternative is Unthinkable
by: Geoff Morris
In America today, one of the most talked about topics is the epidemic proportion of obesity amongst the population, and with it, the actual health of the nation. In CNN Presents, there is even a whole section called ‘Fat Chance’ (the next airing is February 5 at 8 p.m., 11 p.m. ET). http://imnosey.com/fp.
Although there is a whole industry dedicated to diet control, weight loss programs, exercise programs, this is really like putting the cart before the horse.
We all know how difficult it is to start - let alone maintain - a different, almost alien, style of existence, even though we fully understand the dangers that being overweight will bring us. Heart problems, diabetes, damage to the body joints through carrying excess baggage everywhere, are just a few of the many problems generated – let alone the associated millions spent in extra health care repairing this damage.
In fact although much aligned for being ‘false’ you very rarely see many successful Hollywood style actors carrying tremendous amounts of fat, unless it is deliberate.
